Tenby again … One Camera, Two rolls of film … Kodak Ektar & Lomography CN800 …

We managed a short break to Tenby back in the Whitsun holidays which I blogged here https://timdobbsphoto.com/2021/07/30/short-tenby-break-on-lomo-cn400-cn800/ where I took numerous cameras and film but didn’t use most of them.

So when we returned to Tenby for our Summer hols I decided to just take one camera and less film choices .. my Pentax ME Super with the 28mm f3.5 & 50mm f1.7 along with some Kodak Ektar & Lomo CN800.

The weather was pretty great with only a few hours each day where it was a bit overcast, the majority of the days were in glorious sunshine.

When we came home I sent the films off to Filmdev who did a great job with the scans as usual.

Luckily I shot most of the Ektar on the first day with was probably the brightest day by far as you will see here …

Short Tenby break on Lomo CN400 & CN800 ….

A few weeks back we managed to get away for a few days for the first time since last August.

We visited one of our favorite local places … lovely Tenby.

I took along 2 cameras my Minolta X700 and Minolta XG9 with 2 lenses .. the 35-70 f3.5 and 50mm f1.4.

It was my intention to load one camera with 400 and the 2nd with the 800 for the evening.

You may notice by the lack of night shots that plan didn’t really work due to the lack of tripod and my shaky hands after a few drinks.

The first day there it was lovely sunshine while day two was overcast but my favorite images were on CN800 in the early evening sun.

I never finished both rolls while in Tenby and completed them back home but I have only posted the Tenby images here.

Lomo CN 400 is my favorite colour negative stock but CN800 is a close second.

The film was developed and scanned by the wonderful FilmDev who always does a great job at a great price.

Holiday snaps …..

We managed a few days away down West Wales in the cottage 2 weeks ago and as usual I couldn’t make up my mind what camera or film combination to take but as the weather forecast was for lovely bright days albeit pretty chilly I decided on some Fuji Reala in 120 and some Lomo Color Negative 400 in 35mm ….

I would have taken some of the new Kodak Ektachrome but my order didn’t arrive in time for me to take.

Eventually I decided on my Yashicamat 124G and Nikon F100 with both the 50mm f1.4 & 24-85VR and had the processing and scanning done by Filmdev who as usual did a brilliant job.

Anyway here are the images …. first Lomo Color Negative 400

and now the 120 …. Fuji Reala

Apart from the egg shots & cottage image … the locations were Saundersfoot and Tenby.

Summer has gone ….Kodak Ektachrome 100GX

I have a backlog of rolls that I have shot over the last 2 months that I have developed & scanned but not posted.

This is a roll of Kodak Ektachrome 100GX that I shot when we still had a bit of sun here in Wales they are a mix of a day at the beach and the usual walks around my home in the Garw valley.

Obviously this film expired a few years back but if the new Ektachrome is half as nice as this I will be happy when I manage to get my hands on it.

The images were shot using my Nikon F100 and developed using the Tetenal E6 kit.

The Littlest Holga loves Slide film … part 4

For my 4th roll on my adventures with the Littlest Holga I decided on more slide film as we were going to the seaside and the weather was good.

The film in question was Lomography Color Slide X-pro 200 which I processed using the Tetenal E6 kit rather than X-proing it 🙂

A day at the Seaside with some expired Kodak Ultra 400 …..

I am always looking on Ebay for any film bargains even though I have way more film than I actually need already and came across a few rolls of Kodak Ultra 400 that had expired back in 2005.

The seller said it had been cold stored and as I didn’t have any of this stock I took a punt.I loaded up my Nikon FE2 & 35mm f2.5 and we popped down to the beach at Porthcawl, the weather started quite bright but by the time I was half way through the roll the clouds darkened which gave me two different looks to the images.

Once I started scanning the roll I was taken aback with how the images looked, pretty normal colours while shooting in the partial sunshine but when it clouded over the images had quite a pronounced colour shift which for me were the better looking frames if I am honest. Overall I was very happy with how many keepers that I managed to get from this roll.

I even like the pronounced grain in the funkier one’s too.

I am going to print out a couple at quite a decent size as I think the grain/colour will pop more when viewed larger.

Expired Film Day …….

Last week, well March 15th to be precise was Expired film day where photographers were encouraged to shoot a roll of expired film, the older the better and post up and possibly win some prizes.

My chosen film was a roll of Fuji NPS160 that expired back in 1999 and I shot it with my trusty Mamiya 645 and 80mm f2.8.

I rushed home from work hoping to catch the last rays of sun down Porthcawl Beach which we managed to do.I wasn’t sure how the colours were going to look like as NPS is more a portrait film with muted colours. With it being expired I shot it at iso 50 and told Film Dev that I pushed the film and if the could hopefully get something in the scanning for me.When I downloaded the scans I was very happy with the results, the colours were just what I was after and captured the mood of the early evening at the beach.I still have another 5 rolls of this film in my fridge and can’t wait to shoot some more weather allowing 🙂

Elvis has left the building … and is going to Porthcawl ……….

Popped along to the annual Elvis Festival held in Porthcawl last weekend armed only with my trusty Nikon F90x and some ilford HP5+.

Even though we were down there quite early there were plenty of characters walking about all very willing to have their photographs taken.

I was a bit worried taking the shot above due to the Gold jacket and the very bright sunlight but the camera and film coped very well (no instant feed back from the back of the camera with film….lol).

It was good to see Porthcawl busy and vibrant especially after the pretty poor summer weather we have had this year.

All in all I shot just 48 frames all day where as I would have shot hundreds if I had took my DSLR so the editing process was so much easier.

Even though the day was full of colours I am glad that I shot B&W I don’t know what it is but it gave me more of the feel of the day without any distracting colour elements in the frame.

Street Shooting with Film…………

Last weekend we popped down to Porthcawl for an hour or so with my F90x loaded with ilford HP5+ thinking I would capture some gloomy shots of dark clouds and wet holiday-makers but as soon as we parked up the sun came out and so did the people.

It’s a bit of a challenge to shoot candid street photos on film as you cannot just shoot loads and find the good one’s later you have to be very patient and when a shot shows it’s self make sure you get it right.

As the sun was pretty bright and most of the times I found myself shooting into it I was not really sure whether or not I got the shots even though I deliberately over exposed trying not to get silhouettes but the camera and film combo worked great.

It was quite a nice walk around the seafront and we popped into Coney Island on the way back to the car, I could have done with a roll of Colour Film then but they say its going to be a Sunny weekend so we may pop down again, its great to have the seaside right on your doorstep.

Boxing Day…………….

A quiet Boxing Day here in the South Wales valleys, the weather is Grey and very wet so no trips out with the camera.

Still have the Nikon 50mm on the camera so I decided to annoy the family with some candid abstract shots around the house using the D7000 and the SB700 flash.

Not the most exciting of shots but it sums up the relaxing day at home……lol
