Autumn colours .. Mamiya 645 on Kodak Portra 400vc …. the whole roll

As usual here in the South Wales valleys the weather is pretty up and down at the minute but on one of the days that the sun burst through between gale force winds and rain I went out with the Mamiya 645 with the 80mm f2.8 and 45mm f2.8 ( last 3 frames .. so damn sharp ) loaded with some expired Kodak Portra 400vc and tried to capture the lovely Autumn colours here.

I processed the roll using the excellent Tetenal C41 kit which I have managed to stretch to 26 rolls so far with no problems.

I love using the Mamiya as I can get 15 frames and to be honest I find it easier to compose the 645 format compared to square and since getting the Mamiya RB67 I felt I was neglecting its smaller/lighter little brother.

The images came out just as I wanted with plenty of lovely warm Autumn colours and as usual the Mamiya glass didn’t disappoint rendering lovely sharp images even wide open.

More Lomography CN400 with the Mamiya C300 … the whole roll.

I have said before and I will say it again that Lomo CN400 is my favourite colour negative film stock that is currently still being made.

I love Fuji Reala 100 but as it is not made anymore and I have a limited stock of it in my freezer I have tried most of the current films to try and get a goto film that I can rely on and that gives me the look that I like when shooting in colour.

Both Lomo CN100 and CN800 are also lovely films but I prefer the 400 iso version as it gives me a good balance in most lighting conditions.

I dug out my Mamiya C330. the other day and as I hadn’t shot colour with it for a while I loaded the lomo 400 and went out for a little walk on a nice bright but slightly cloudy day.

I developed it using the Tetenal C41 kit and scanned it with an Epson v500 using the epson scan software .. removing the dust and tweaking the frames in Adobe Lightroom.

As usual the film didn’t disappoint and neither did the C330, the colours popped and were lovely and sharp.

So here is the whole roll .. I would recommend any other film photographers to give this film a try if they have not already done so you won’t be disappointed.

Summer has gone ….Kodak Ektachrome 100GX

I have a backlog of rolls that I have shot over the last 2 months that I have developed & scanned but not posted.

This is a roll of Kodak Ektachrome 100GX that I shot when we still had a bit of sun here in Wales they are a mix of a day at the beach and the usual walks around my home in the Garw valley.

Obviously this film expired a few years back but if the new Ektachrome is half as nice as this I will be happy when I manage to get my hands on it.

The images were shot using my Nikon F100 and developed using the Tetenal E6 kit.

Sunshine & Shade .. Provia 100F and my Yashicamat 124G ….

The weather here in South Wales has been pants over the last few weeks and I have some E6 chemistry sitting in my darkroom quickly going off as I have not had the light I need to shoot my recently acquired Fuji Provia 100F.

But last weekend we had some reasonable sunshine breaks so I loaded up my Yashicamat and went out to chase the sun.

But as it turned out there seemed to be more poor cloud cover than sunshine so as you can see from my 12 frames here how Provia changes its look depending on the conditions.

It goes from a cool, subtle palette to a vibrant glowing look when the sun shines.

I quite like both looks to be honest.

I was happy that my Tetenal E6 chemistry still had some legs on it and I was very happy with how the roll looked …. and managing to get 12 out of 12 keepers was a bonus.

While on my walk I met 3 gents who were quite taken with the Camera requesting a photo be taken which I duly obliged.

Lomography Color Negative 400 is becoming my most favorite colour film …

I recently did a post about my 1st time shooting Lomography Color Negative 400 film in 35mm and this is a sort of follow up or my 2nd roll if you like.

This time the light was pretty dull unlike the bright sunshine I enjoyed with the 1st roll but I was good as it allowed a comparison with similar subject matter.

It would be fair to say that the film performed just as good in poor light as it did in bright sunshine giving excellent sharpness even shooting at wide apertures using my Olympus OM2s & 50mm f1.4.

The colours are still pretty vibrant just a little more subtle which lends itself to maybe shooting portraits which I think will be my next subject with this film.

This film is excellent value costing around £4 a roll in the UK here is a link direct to the Lomography site but a quick Google search will bring up some even cheaper prices.

Autumn colours with Kodak Ektachrome E100VS … part 1

For a change usually when I get a nice long weekend off be it summer or winter I always seem to pick the days with rubbish weather but luckily for me last weekend I got a good one.

As I still have my Tetenal E6 kit mixed from the end of the summer I decided to shoot some slide film before the chemistry went off.

As I had not shot Ektachrome for ages and with Kodak hopefully bringing back the emulsion shortly I decided to shoot 2 rolls over 2 days in both 120 and 35mm ( which will be in part 2).I went out mid Sunday morning with the Yashicamat 124G hoping to catch some nice light on the autumn leaves/trees.The light did not disappoint and maybe for the 1st time ever I managed to get 12 keepers from a roll of 120.

I set the meter at 80 iso and tried to meter for the shadows hoping not to blow the highlights too much. When shooting in bright sunlight the colours really pop really enhancing the autumn colours I can’t wait to get my hands on the “New” Ektachrome when it eventually appears.
