Kodak Vision 3 50D on a sunny day ….

Ages ago I bought some hand rolled Kodak 50D from a twitter friend and as I was also given a new kit of ECN-2 chemicals also from a different twitter friend I dug a roll out of the fridge and loaded my Nikon F100 with both the 50mm f1.4 and 24-85 VR and shot the roll over one whole week.

I really like using 250D as I find it a bit more versatile that 50D due to the poor weather we seem to get more often or not here in Wales but the week just gone has been great so using 50 iso has been pretty easy for a change.

Developing using the QWD ECN-2 kit is a breeze but I find that scanning Vision 3 films quite a pain compared to C-41 as my Epson software seems to find strange colour casts on about 50% of the frames so my scanning times are probably doubled.

That said I do like how Vision 3 films look and 50D has pretty fine grain compared to both 250D and 500T which makes sense due to the lower ISO.

Kodak Vision 3 50D in the sunshine ….

I have quite a few rolls of Kodak Vision 3 50D along with a few other rolls of various motion picture stock in my fridge.

I had been waiting for some good light to try the 50D to see how it performed as I really liked the 250D when it was processed in both C41 & ECN2 chemistry.

I hadn’t shot my Pentax Program A for a while so I went out for a walk to see what I could get in the sun.

As I was pretty impatient I developed the roll in C41 as I don’t have any ECN2 chemistry yet.

The initial scans where pretty flat which isn’t a surprise but once I got them into Lightroom and just tweaked the Dehaze slider the images really popped.

The grain was pretty smooth which is to be expected with a film rated at 50 iso and it was pretty sharp as well.

Overall I really like the look of this film stock, it’s not as versatile as 250D or 500T but if you have good light it is definitely a film I want to shoot more of but next time I will develop in ECN2 chems.

Really enjoying shooting motion picture stock …..

I have been trying a few of the motion picture stocks that are available over the last few months and developing them at home in C41 chemistry.

A twitter friend messaged a few weeks back asking if I was interested in some Kodak Vision 3 50D that he had a surplus of  and as I have not tried this stock before I duly obliged.

I am trying to go through each type and dev/scan in C41 first and then shoot the same stocks and dev in the correct chemistry just to compare the looks.

I have not been disappointed with how the films have performed in C41 so it will be interesting which I will prefer.

Anyway here are my keepers from the roll that I shot using my Nikon F100 and 24-85 vr on quite an overcast but bright day.
