More from the Classic Car Show…….

I have manage to edit some of my digital shots from the Classic Car show I visited the other week. There is a mix of cars and portraits, I noticed that this year I shot far more people shots than cars which showed me the way my photography is starting to go.

I really like shooting people be it portraits or just candidly in the street and since getting back into film that is what I want to do more than any other photography.

I still like the look I get when tone mapping Classic cars, this type of look is not appreciated by everyone but I like it….lol

Photo Exhibition and Cardiff Bay……..

We went to the “Cardiff after Cardiff” exhibition at the Wales Millennium Centre this weekend and thoroughly  enjoyed it, I love Street Photography and this was right up my street as they say.

Here is a link to the exhibition   http://www.wmc.org.uk/Productions/2012-2013/18969/79765/?view=Standard

Here is the link to the blog that explains how this exhibition came about  http://cardiffbeforecardiff.tumblr.com/

After the viewing we walked around the bay looking for photo opportunities using my film camera and my D7000 and Tamron 17-50 f2.8 and immediately came across a great couple sitting down enjoying an ice cream. I didnt want to shoot them candidly so I asked if they were up for a portrait and they gladly obliged  🙂

The main image at the top of the blog is of the Seamen’s Memorial Sculpture created by Brian Fell to the sailors of the Merchant Navy who lost their lives crossing the Atlantic Ocean during the Second World War and the building in the background is the Pierhead Building built in 1897 as the headquarters for the Bute Dock Company.

All in all it was a cheap afternoon out and I am looking forward to getting my film back to see the results, Cardiff Bay is a great place to shoot street stuff.

A Nice afternoon stroll……..

Its half term in school and I have a week off work so I have been decorating since the weekend and as the sun was shining late this afternoon I took a break and went out for a stroll with my camera. The Autumn colours are great but I decided to take a 3 shot bracketed shot of the Lake just to see if I could show the full range as I saw it.

I don’t think it looks too over cooked, comments appreciated……..

Steam Trains…….

I have been going through the photographs I took recently on our holidays to Butlins, Minehead.

We popped along to the West Somerset Railway where there were various old steam trains, it felt like going back in time as we walked along the platform .

I am not a train fan or anything but it was great when I asked the driver if I could get aboard the engine and take some shots and he was  very happy for me to do so.

I processed these in Aperture and used HDR efex plugin to try to extract the detail out of the shots (single raw files not bracketed)

Cardiff Harbour Festival…..

Visited Cardiff Bay this weekend and it was in the middle of its Harbour Festival, loads of interesting characters and various food and craft stalls.

Because of the cloud cover I decided to try and take a photograph of the Tall ships moored up with the hope of creating a HDR to enhance the clouds.

After various tweaking I decided to convert the final Tonemapped image to mono…… comments very welcome.

I will post the colour version if anyone is interested, let me know.

A Garw walk after the rain……

Went out for a little walk tonight after the rain with the hopes of catching the last rays of sun before it disappeared behind the mountain.

I didn’t want to take out the tripod so I bracketed 3 exposures in camera and shot on continuous high and hoped for the best.

Processed in Photomatix.
