Last Days of the Embassy Cinema……

I shot this yesterday as a record of the end of a Bridgend landmark. I think most people who have lived in Bridgend have some fond memories of the Embassy cinema I know I do, its sad that the building could not have been saved.

A Day at the Fair…….

I was testing out my new Sigma 30mm f1.4 and went down Porthcawl on a nice sunny day where I saw this couple sitting in the middle of the fairground. I took a few quick snaps but they looked so interesting I asked if I could take their portrait, they were shocked that someone wanted to take their picture but duly obliged.

Got a new Toy……….

I managed to get a Sigma 30mm f1.4 today and boy do I love this lens already.

I already have the Nikon 35mm f1.8 which is a great little lens but this one is something else, just as a little test I went out for a walk and shot everything wide open  which was a challenge because of the bright sunlight

but the shots were great, the focus was spot on and the bokeh was lush. All the above shots were shot Raw with the Nikon D7000 @ f1.4 no post processing just exported to jpeg from Aperture.

Little & Littler…..

I pass these horses on the way to and from work everyday but noticed an even smaller one yesterday so stopped to take some photos.

The foal was very nervous so I kept my distance but still managed to get a few.

Old School……….

I took part in the Cardiff Photomarathon event on Saturday and as well as attempting to take photographs of the topics provided I also tried to take some candid street shots.

I met a photographer using a film camera to document a “Naked Cycle Ride” through the Cardiff streets, we had a brief chat about the pros and cons of Digital versus Film before we were swamped with loads of Bicycles.

Olympus E-PL1

I have been using my new Olympus E-PL1 camera and playing about with the various Art Filters, and must say I am very impressed at what this little camera produces.

I especially like the Gritty B&W filter best.

The quality of the Raw files it produces with the 14-42mm lens is excellent. It has the added bonus of being able to use various other manufacturers lenses with the appropriate adapter.

I can’t wait to try out some of my Nikon primes. I thoroughly recommend this camera especially at the price it is at the moment £279 here in the UK.
